Wolverhampton Skatepark

Reviewed by Duncan

This is a small park, which was not quite complete when I visited. The only bit to be completed was the vert though.

The ramps are very typical of the Fearless type. They have managed to get a lot of ramps into the small space, and the transitions are quite tight as a result. There's not a lot of opportunity to go big, but what's there is very smooth.

The main features are:

  • 3' Mini ramp
  • 6' Midi with volcano
  • Planter/Rail box
  • Assorted 1/4's and flat banks.
  • 8' tombstone roll-in to 6' jump box

The ramps are very well built. Smooth wooden transitions which merge seamlessly into the full wooden floor. The copings are fast and predicatable without losing control. The layout of the park gives scope for different lines, but these are limited.

The downsides are mainly caused by the limits on the size of the park. Basically everything is very small and it can feel cramped if there's a lot of people skating. It's not a huge problem though and it's nice for beginners and moderate skaters to have a park where they can use everything.

Having said that, all the skaters I saw while I was there were at least competent, which is a little unusual these days.

To summarise, it won't be my regular park, but I'll definitely be revisiting when the vert is completed. A nice, but small park which will enrich the lives of the Midlands' skaters.
